Testing the calculated shipping fee on easyRates
The shipping methods available to customers are based on the total weight of the order.
If the shipping methods, EMS or Post Parcel are selected, shipping of up to 30kg is possible.
However, the shipping method Small Packet requires the total weight to be below 2kg.
1. Calculate the total weight of your order
Determine the weight of each product from the product page in Shopify and sum the weights for the order.
example)
In this example, the weight is indicated in the product name. There are 3 of the same items so, 500(g)*3 = 1500g. The product weight for this order is 1500g which means all delivery options are available.
Next, add the package weight to the order weight calculated above.
The total weight of this order is 1620g.
1500+120(package weight)=1620
2. Compare the rate with Japan Post prices
In this example, the test will be done with Small Packet - surface.
The shipment location is the United States of America.
easyRates indicates that the shipping fee for Japan Post should be around $15 which is approximately ¥2330(in Japanese Yen).
Next, calculate the rate manually using the information provided by Japan Post and verify the accuracy of easyRates automatic calculations.
Use this Japan Post website and select the method and area you are shipping, and inside the page the shipping type and service type.
For this example order it would be "Letter-post" sent to America, with "Surface mail" - "Small packets". This will provide a list of shipping fees, showing that 1.5kg would be 2,200yen.
¥2200 would be equivalent to $14.16 (currently, 2024 May) and this is rounded up to display $15 on Shopify.
Now, we know that the shipping rates are correctly displayed on easyRates.
