*This method can be very time-consuming to set up. If it is possible to use Japan Post or easyRates to calculate the orders, it is highly recommended. The shipping fee calculations for this method is not precise. Please use this method at your own risk.
Japan Post deliveries can be made globally for packages that weigh less than 30kg. For packages exceeding 30kg, please use a different shipping company.
This article briefly showcases how to set shipping rates from other companies.
1. Set the country for shipment
From the Shopify settings, please select "Shipping and Delivery" and access the "General shipping rates" in the shipping section at the top. Access the Shipping origins and Shipping zones and click "Create zone". Select a country with many orders over 30kg. In this example, the shipping company FedEx and the destination country, the United States of America, are used.
Choose the United States of America and create the zone.
2. Calculate the shipping rate
In this example, rates are calculated for products weighing between 31kg and 40kg. Please use the FedEx shipping rate calculator online to determine the shipping rate for 40kg. (The rate for 40kg will cover the rate for 31kg as it is lighter.)
The rate was approximately ￥85,000. (Freely decide the currency.)
Please be careful when calculating rates manually, we will not take any responsibility for any miscalculations.
3. Configure the shipping settings
Click "Add rate" in the Shopify settings for the zone you have created in step 1. Name the custom rate "FedEx" and add conditional pricing based on item weight.
Set the conditions to 31kg to 40kg.
Enter the ￥85,000 calculated at step 2.
With these steps, a special shipping method for products shipped to the U.S. weighing over 31kg should be visible at checkout.
4. Test it out on your store
Create a test product weighing 35kg and check if the shipping method is correctly displayed.
Select the 35kg product and enter an address in the U.S.
The only shipping method available should be FedEx.
Verify that this shipping method is not available if the conditions are not met.
For other products that do not meet the conditions, the price will not be displayed and only the easyRates shipping methods can be selected.
When FedEx changes their shipping rates, this setting will need to be reconfigured.
Additionally, this method does not display a precise shipping rate, so please use it with caution.
The packaging weight is not included in the example above, please be aware.
